All the surfaces have had there material ID’s changed.

What happens when you don’t get the choice to attach the surfaces?

I’ve selected two surfaces and there’s no options under the modify tab available and also the Attach in the Group pull down is greyed out.

I need to go on a course!!!

Cheers

Sorted well almost.

I now have a truck in dynamite. I’m using the materials which came with the model, as they where more complex than the mesh itself.

I figured out the attach command.

The only thing I need to sort out now is a shadow.

I see from the dynamite cars that they have a rectangle beneath them.

I’ve tried to recreate a rectangle below the car and I’ve assigned the material ID26 for the shadow. Bu tit’s assigning another material to it.

What colour is the shadow, I could try and assign it manually??

Cheers

Its attaching a gray gravel type material. I’m guessing that it’s coming from the material lib for the truck.

Mark, are you the Kiwi who’s in South Africa?

Something like that…........I’ve heard there are so many South Africans living in NZ, that there’s no room for kiwi’s anymore. Decided to reverse the trend and come to South Africa !!

I’ve tried to recreate a rectangle below the car and I’ve assigned the material ID26 for the shadow. But it’s assigning another material to it.

You are on the right track with the matID, however, this function is designed to work with the standard DynamiteVehicles material, otherwise you’d have to design your own multi/sub-object material with this correct texture on channel 26.

The texture that’s used is a bitmap, which you can find in the matlibs/vehiclemaps folder of your current DVSP country kit. The bitmap is called shadow.jpg and needs to be placed in the diffuse and opacity slot of your material (this makes the black parts of the bitmap invisible).

Of course, the alternative is to turn on full shadow casting for the vehicle and use a shadow casting sunlight object in your scene - that way you don’t need the shadow saver, but your rendering times will obviously be higher than they are right now.

Turn shadow casting on either from the Placed Object Manager, or if you always want all vehicles in every scene to cast shadows, go to the DVSP Preferences panel.

Well I’m one of those whinging poms. Although I don’t whinge much.

Bruce

I had a go at getting the shadow under the truck, but I didn’t succeed.

I placed the shadow.jpg in the diffuse and opacity slot, when I attached the shadow shape to the rest of the vehicle it comes up with an attach options box asking whether to either Match Material IDs to Material or Match Material to Material IDs or Do Not Modify Mat IDs or Material.

Which one should I choose?

Cheers
