The thing that is displayed is error reading bitmap. When i press F11:

So it is an memory issue? Can thing be solved?

Thanks for your help!

I solved it by resizing the images, but now the images is halve the size of the surface, so the resolutions is very bad :(

If you modify the JGW file, you can ensure that the image is placed at the correct scale in your model, regardless of hwo much you have resampled it.

The problem you have encountered above, is due to a well documented problem with the way that 3ds Max manages large bitmaps in memory.  Resampling it down to a lower resolution is the only solution right now, unless you can switch to a 64-bit version of 3ds Max.

In MAX 2010 autodesk enabled “bitmap pager” as default. It is usefully especially in 32bit environment. Bitmap pager uses hard drive for your scene as “swap file”. when you have not enough RAM memory it can use hard drive memory to simulate your ram memory. For 64bit system with large amount of RAM “bitmap pager” is not recommenced. This is from autodesk support center:

The Bitmap Pager can help with the rendering of scenes that have very large textures, a large number of textures, or when rendering a high-resolution image. These settings provide additional memory for the rendering process by utilizing hard disk space.

In max 2009 and earlier versions this function is not enabled by default and you cen enable it by yourself in menu: Customize—>rendering.

However be warned that it slows down rendering speed a lot.

And it doesn’t always help :(

Well I bought a new computer now with a 64 bit processor and 4gb of memory. I’ve installed Windows Vista Ultimate 64bits on it. In comparison with my old systeem 32bit, 2gb memory i would expect that rendering the bitmap wouldn’t be a problem now!

But what can do best now? Install 3dstudio max 2009? of 2010? And with Dynamite version?
Now i’m running a student/trail version of Dynamite 3.7. (because i am a student civil engineering).
Is there even a student/trail version of Dynamite 4?

If you want to take full advantage of 64bit enviroment you must use 3DS max 64bit with DVSP 4 64bit. DVSP 3.7 will not work under 64bit OS…however there are a 64bit plugins of DVSP but it only let you enable to render DVSP scenes under 64bit application and Os. Furthermore…you are using Vista and 4GB of ram. from my experience it is not good combination (64bit vista can utilize half of your memory - 2gb). Try using XP 64bit. It uses less RAM and thus you will have more ram for your software to utilize.

PS
Buy more ram…it is cheap now. I bought 12Gb and it helps a lot, but still not enough for me…I had to divide my 30km scene for three separate scenes.

i tried to install xp 64bit, but i didn’t succeed in this. I did got some problems with my satadrivers. But i going to try it again, because Vista is very fustrating! I already searched for more memory. But i’m using a laptop with 2 memory slots. and i can extend it to a maximum of 8 gb. But the costs for that, around 300/400 euro’s is not really cheap.. (i am just a student raspberry) So minimal costs, max preformance raspberry
