Hi

I have recently purchased some RPC trees which I am able to add from 3DSMax by dragging and dropping into my scene. Is there a way I can add them to the Dynamite tree library for placement with the object manager?

Cheers

Yes - the “Resource Kit Manager” panel in Dynamite VSP allows the content of the object libraries to be edited and added to. Open that panel and navigate to the vehicles category, then make a copy of one of the object definition files in the list.

Now you can specify the source object for the new definition file. When you select the button to change the source max file, you’ll notice that from the file navigation panel you can also select RPC files.

Assuming you have the RPC plugin installed, this will allow you to use the Object Placement Style Editor to place RPC content into your model.

Actually this has revealed a bigger problem, when I open the Resource manager and select vehicles it tries to configure the viewpoint viewer and then crashes 3DsMax !!
Any ideas what could cause this?

I am running 32bit VSP 3.1 in 3dsMax 2009 on Windows XP

I have also recently had a new build PC with Autocad 2009 installed after which I was getting a missing .dll error on starting 3sdMax but everything else seems to work ok.
Our IT guys havn’t been able to figure it out yet.

Cheers

David, which version of 3ds Max and Dynamite VSP are you using? Viewpoint technology is no longer used in Dynamite VSP 4.0, so I’m guessing it’s v3.?  ???

It sounds to me like a permissions related issue with the Viewpoint Media Player, but it would be interesting to know if you see any specific error messages when this happens.

Yes I am running Dynamite 3.60 although I understand we will soon be upgrading to VSP 4 and 3dsMax 2010 which may fix the problem hopefully but it would still be good to find out why I can’t get this version to work.

On clicking vehicles from the VSP Resource lit manager it configures the Viewpoint media player then crashes leaving me with a 3ds Max error report - Unhandled Exception.
I sent off the error report and got an automated response that my vervion of 3ds did not have the latest service packs installed.

I’d recommend getting those service packs installed.

Worth checking if this solves your problem before we look at other solutions.
