It’s now just over a year since Autodesk acquired Dynamite VSP, and there is been a lot of work going on in the background both here at 3AM and within Autodesk to fully integrate the product into the Autodesk product range.

Last year, the product received a partial rebranding. Although the product itself was still using the Dynamite VSP name, it was widely promoted by Autodesk as the Civil Visualization Extension as part of a package which included the Dynamite VSP Exporter for Civil 3D.

With the recent release of 3ds Max Design 2012 and Civil 3D 2012, I can now confirm that the products are now fully integrated into 3ds Max Design and Civil 3D and have received their new, permanent Autodesk branding.

From this point forward, the product will be officially known as Autodesk Civil View, and it’s a name that we rather like.

No - Dynamite VSP supports 3ds Max Design up to and including 3ds Max Design 2011.  Autodesk Civil View is then included with 3ds Max Design from 2012 onwards.

So, DVSP from now is not supported in any way ??..I mean no new features and no upgrades and if we want to stay on top with new stuff we should upgrade to 2012 ??

Critical bug fixes only for DVSP 4.x as it was under the 3AM Solutions name.  New features will definitely appear, but now only in the Autodesk version of the product (now known as Civil View), which forms part of 3ds Max Design 2012.

Incidentally, we no longer sell support contracts for Dynamite VSP, and haven’t done so since late in 2009. All existing contracts gradually expired naturally throughout 2010.

Officially, Autodesk is now responsible for support for both Dynamite VSP and Civil View but we decided to keep the Community Site running anyway because we believe that it is a valuable resource for users, and also provides valuable feedback to us as developers.

The big advantage of all this is that you now only need to pay annual maintenance (subscription) for one product - 3ds Max Design - to stay up to date, which halves the annual support costs compared to when Dynamite VSP was available direct from 3AM Solutions as a separate product.

DVSP license file was only valid for one year and we had to renew it by sending request to 3AM by mail. How end of the DVSP line products (at its original state) affects this procedure ??

That procedure is not affected. License files for existing users of Dynamite VSP are still available from 3AM Solutions in the normal way, and will continue to be available.

So you can continue using Dynamite VSP 4.x indefinitely if you wish, assuming that you choose not to upgrade to 3ds Max Design 2012.

Sorry - I should have mentioned that.

Hey, Bruce.  Regarding an online forum, is it likely that Autodesk will create a forum on Area for Civil View?

Will you guys still be involved with the development of CV?

I wouldn’t expect Autodesk to create a Civil View forum on The Area, but what are your views - would you like to see one?

Yes, we’ll still be involved with the development of CV - no plans to change that any time soon.

Tough call.  I could understand Autodesk doing that because it’s now an integrated product and that would be logical.  However, as quiet as this place is, this is the home forum of Dynamite / Civil View.  But then additional exposure might freshen things up?

Dunno, personally I value this forum for the knowledge here and your direct input / feedback but sometimes wish this place was a bit more active.
