I’ve only had a brief look but are the skymaps locked to running from the globals folder where the program is installed?

That’s right. The globals/skymaps folder. Any bitmaps which are placed in this folder will show up in the Sky Parameters rollout in DVSP Explorer.

Would it be useful to allow the bitmaps to be loaded from other locations?

I’d imagine so.  That way you can have a centrally controlled library on the network much the same as you can do with the country kits.

On a side issue, can you set the skymap to blend seamlessly?  I thought there was a setting somewhere which hit the seem but I can’t find it.  I’ve also tried fudging the material but with limited success.  I mean, the maps certainly tile properly when in Photoshop but in MAX it renders with a seam.

I’ll put the request for an optional skymap location setting on the wishlist.

Just set the “Tint Noise Size” parameter to zero to remove the seam. By default, DVSP overlays the base sky bitmap with a procedural gradient map which just provides some additional control over the level of cloud and haze in the sky.

This gradient map uses a certain level of “noise” by default, an effect which cannot be tiled and this causes the seam to be visible in the sky.
